Default Has anybody ever seen these 1935 Reds before?

I just picked 25 different Reds photos from 1935, including HOFers Ernie Lombardi, Kiki Cuyler and Highpockets Kelly. Like the Mabry & Carews and the circa 1940 Reds photos that Frank Ward has posted here before, they're too small to be press photos and they are definitely professional grade images. They measure 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches. They are numbered, but the numbers don't correspond with the players' jersey numbers. Some have last names written in pencil on the back, while others have a printed last name. The photos were all taped into an album, so there are stains on the corners, but they're still pretty interesting. I'll post more when I remove them from the pages they are taped to. I'm also considering trying to remove the tape stains, in case anybody has any ideas ...

Looks like a nice find Chris, especially for a Reds fan. I have little to no knowledge of photos so I'm not any help there, but I'm looking forward to seeing the others that you have picked up.

The tape residue that remains after taking them out of an album looks like it will come off quite easy. Here's Ernie Lombardi, Jim Bottomley, Babe Herman, Tony Frietas, Adam Comorosky and Paul Derringer. Sunny Jim sure loved that pose, which is almost identical his two Batter-Up cards ...

Awesome photos, Chris!

My guess is that they are snapshot photos taken by a pretty good photographer and not really a card or team issue.

I think those are photos from the Quality Photo Shop. It was on Vine Street in Cincinnati. In the 30's, 40's, 50's, and maybe beyond, they were the official photographers for the Cincinnati Reds, I believe. You could go in there and buy photos of various sizes, or you could buy them through the mail. Even in the 50's you could buy photos of 30's ballplayers. I'm pretty sure that's what you have.

That's very interesting, Frank. That might explain where all these different Reds photos come from. It certainly makes sense that they were the official photographers for the Reds ... the quality of the images is fantastic. They must not have made too many either, since they rarely show up on eBay, and I search every week for Reds photos from the 30s and 40s ...
