Default What T-brand is on your T205 Ty Cobb ?

A good majority of the T205 Cobb's appear to have either PIEDMONT (Factory 25) or POLAR BEAR
backs. Let's see how consistent these two front/back combos are in this Cobb's population ?

And, what is the spread across the remaining 15 backs in the T205 issue ? ?

Check-out your T205 Cobb's and let us know and please include the FACTORY # of the T-brand.

Thanks,

TED Z

Ted,
Cobb only comes with American Beauty Green, Hassan Fact. 30, Honest Long Cut, Piedmont 25, Piedmont 42, and Polar Bear.

Over the last 7 years I have tracked Cobb as one of my "interesting" cards since he was a popular Hall of Famer but not included in most brands of T205. Also his numbers are a little odd when looked at in comparison to the general set.

Here is info. that I have:
I have seen 412 distinct Ty Cobb T205 cards in the last 7 years.
Advertising: # of cards seen % of total
Piedmont Fact. 42: 7 1.6
American Beauty: 12 2.9
Hassan Fact. 30: 26 6.3
Honest Long Cut: 45 10.9
Polar Bear: 82 19.9
Piedmont Fact. 25: 240 58.2

The interesting thing about this information is that it does not quite match up with my totals for overall populations of the different backs. Polar Bear backs actually occur more often in the general population than they do with Cobb. I think Cobb may have been one of later print runs in Polar Bear. Still fairly common though. I have also seen several factory Piedmont Fact. 42s surface in the last few years...more than most Fact. 42s...in fact, I have only seen Wilson as often as Cobb in Fact. 42 Piedmont.

Just for the record...I own two Cobbs...one a Piedmont Fact. 25 and one Honest Long Cut.

Hope this helps Ted.

Joshua

Ted - is that just from the numbers above? It looks like you added the SGC population (where they don't differentiate between factories) to the Piedmont factory 25 total.

Furthermore, it looks like you added Josh's survey results to the SGC pop report numbers, even though they overlap, essentially double-counting those cards.

Default Matt W......

I will email Joshua, and find out if any Cobb's in his 7 year data were gleaned from SGC Pop reports ?

Also, as is obvious, the number of Piedmont #42 Cobb's are negligible compared to the total population of Piedmont
Cobb's. Therefore, if a few #42's are included in this total, it is moot for the purposes of this sampling.

Anyhow, I leave it up to you to sort this out.....and, I'm sure you will find that there are very few #42's in the mix.

Ted and all,
A lot of my data includes cards that are/were graded. I try to keep track of specific cards and know of some that were raw and then graded later as well. I think it would be safe to say that with crossovers, raw, cracked out, etc. that my data is probably more complete than the SGC or PSA data alone. The numbers when you look at the percentages are actually pretty close anyway, so adding in the extra data probably did not make much difference.

Default Thanks Joshua......

....for clarifying your data. I was hesitant to include the POP report info because of the inherent problem in the
POP report data of crossovers, etc.

But, I think some here are misconstruing my intentions regarding this thread. It is NOT meant to be a SURVEY !

But, simply intended to get a ballpark spread of the T205 Cobb backs and their relative representation.

Best regards,

TED Z
