Default Is this a proper 2nd Chance offer?

Posted By: Frank B

I was second best on a card this past week and today I get an e-mail stating -

**I have sent you a second chance offer through eBay earlier, for one of my items (xxxxxxxxxx).. I issued this second chance offer because the winning bidder was unable to complete the transaction, due to security reasons. You are now able to buy this item for your highest bid price . If you are interested, please let me know, because the transaction will be handled by eBay. All you have to do is to send me your complete name and address, and eBay will contact you with further details .
Please reply directly to my e-mail address ( xxxxxxxxx ) , this way I will be able to respond faster.**

The part I am leery of is the request to email directly to the seller my name and address.
That coupled with the fact that when I click on the 2nd Chance offer link in my EBay account
It results in:

*This listing (xxxxxxxxxxx) has been removed or is no longer available. Please make sure you entered
the right item number.*

Is something out of the ordinary with this?

Frank-

I got the same thing. I wouldn't respond. The scary thing is it was in my main ebay page and messages.

The fact that the listing has been removed is a red flag. Had the auction ended with a buyer it would still be up irrespective of whether the buyer followed through.

Legitimate second chance offerings are through your My Ebay not in this manner.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

This was through ebay, it looked like anyway..showed up on my main page, and this listing number did go to the auction for a while, then the link quit working for the item number. Very bad. I changed ebay password and paypal password afterwards.

If it came through you My Ebay messgaes I would think it legit. I could be wrong and maybe someone else will pipe in.

I looked over the e-mail message from Ebay and compared it to the email
message from the supposed seller. The item #s are completely different.

Also, in the Ebay message the seller added the following note:

**Message from seller: Please don't reply here I will contact you via e-mail with more information
about payment and shipping info . Thank you.**

Same thing exactly Frank. The email said to send my name and addy to them directly...(of course I didn't) their email is Lisabona000@aol.com which I doubt is a Broadway Rick's work email.

Dave - yes, same e-mail address and it was also an item offered by Broadway Rick.

I have changed my passwords as well, just to be safe.

...that are even remotely suspicious should be sent to **spoof@ebay.com**

They will get back to you quickly if it is from them. And if it isn't, they will investigate.

I typically ignore second chance offers--high risk transaction--unless I know the seller.

Took a stab at IMing the emailer of the 2nd Chance offer and
they were online and answered. I used a diff IM to contact them and asked about a diff card
but that didn't seem to matter to them. They had no problem acknowledging that they were
Broadway Rick. I think if asked if they were ELVIS they'd have agreed.
They logged off before I could really start into her/him.
You know you must be annoying when a scammer hangs up on you first.

=================

LVASportsFB: how much for that card?
LVASportsFB: hello rick?
Lisabona000: yes wait a sec
\
LVASportsFB: 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth PSA 2.5 - I can't pay more than $900 for that
LVASportsFB: No real difference between a PSA 2 and a PSA 2.5
Lisabona000: Hmm.... yes We will start with

Lisabona000: First name:
Last name:
Address:
City:
Zip:
Country:
When you reply with the info In 3 minutes I will reply here with shipping info ( company website and tracking )

LVASportsFB: $900 for the Ruth is OK?
Lisabona000: YES sir

LVASportsFB: OK - Please put a BIN up for the $900 and let me know when it goes up and I will go right to it before anyone else snaps it up.
LVASportsFB: and I want Insurance on the item so please state how much that is
LVASportsFB: I think it's $9 - $10
Lisabona000: I don't have time to relist the item , I am in a business trip with work . So if you really want this item you can start with giving me the info I need to start shipping.
LVASportsFB: OK - I will e-mail you shipping info but I am only capable of doing PayPal for a purchase. Thats where all my money is right now for buying
LVASportsFB: Unless you want to take a personal check
LVASportsFB: those are my two options unless you want a 1975 Frank Duffy in trade
Lisabona000: I understand so please give me the info because I need to conatct the company and Ebay will contact you with payment method and shipping info
LVASportsFB: what company? Is someone else holding the card?
Lisabona000: shipping company , where the item si send and wait for your details to be sent to you !
LVASportsFB: what shipping company do you use? I am in Swisschitlins AK and only DHL and the USPS services the area
LVASportsFB: no FeEx and no UPS
Lisabona000: Air cargo express , with that company I work for very long time and is very good company
LVASportsFB: I would have to travel 30 miles to pickup a FedEx and I have painful hemorrhoids right now so would rather
not leave the cabin
LVASportsFB: I don't think that they deliver here unless it goes through Postal Service
Lisabona000: They will delivery everywhere. I have to go at work sir . please send me your full name and address so I can contact the company from work to start shipping. and I will contact you with shipping info. THANK YOU . waiting for your e-mail . have a good day !
Lisabona000: send me the info in e-mail lisabona000@aol.com

I have never known anyone who has had "pleasant hemorrhoids", butt there is always a possibility. Thank you for the laugh.

Could someone give a little more info on "Broadway Rick" for the rest of us that aren't familiar?

Tim-

I'm not positive if Rick has anything to do with this or not, or if another scammer has just hijacked some of his old listings...

I'm guess that's not Rick, he might do some shady things but that is really strange.

I hear ya on the hemorrhoids...do you have one of those donut cushions? They work magic!

It's pretty clear from the conversation that there is a person/company out there that spams all bidders on certain auctions (not necessarily just baseball card auctions) in order to obtain lots of personal information.

The scammer sent an e-mail to my IM address looking for personal
info. I got back on chat with them and it became pretty obvious that
Broadway Rick is being victimized by this person. I'd put a copy of
it on here but the dialogue gets a little spicy (when it finally dawns
on him I'm not for real he goes off pretty good).

Someone who knows Rick should warn him to take whatever steps necessary
to protect his account. This person is probably doing this to many
sellers but the fact is he was able to make a 2nd Chance offer appear
in my account and Daves and make it look like it came from Rick.
