I picked up this 1956 Dodgers team Exhibit today at a local show, after some internet searching I find out that these have been reproduced. Mine looks vintage to me, I have handled exhibits before and this one seems to be same card stock as others I have handled but would like to know if anybody can tell by the scans wheather It's real or fake.

The repos I've had and seen look more black and white instead of sepia-ish. Still, that card looks ok. Have you put a black light to it?

It's a little more septia than the scan shows but not a whole lot.

Frank, I think I sold my Black Light with my Hendrix posters in the early 70's. If I did have a black light, what would I be looking for?

This exhibit was bought by the dealer with about 100 other player exhibits, I saw the others. I bought the Dodgers because it books the highest of the team Exhibits and I thought it might be a scarce one.

Old paper doesn't have brighteners in it. Brighteners fluoresce when illuminated by black light. My thinking is that a black light would show real 1950ish Exhibit cards as dull, but newer reprints would glow a bit.

Search black light on this board... Someone even has written a fairly scholarly piece about the use of a black light.

Frank.

From the scan it looks good. It has all of the characteristics I look for....fairly sharp features with no grainy look...uneven wear but not artificial looking (usually the wear is too even)....and the back looks good too.....Could tell more for sure in person, but I like it.....nice pick up

ps...do we have not other exhibit collectors, or is this a little new, or is apathy setting in ?

the fakes I've seen have much darker stock, sometimes a bit thicker too. Yours looks OK

Old Exhibits can smell musty and have foxing or old age browning on back. If an old card smells musty, that's consistent with being old.
