Now that we are fast approaching the end of the year, it would
be fun to hear about the two or three items that you regret not
acquiring in 2006.

Hopefully, this will be an item that you were bidding on
in a major auction and/or on E Bay that went to another
collector. One, that, if you had to do it all over again,
would now be in your collection

My top choices are:

1. Rochester/Willaims Baking High grade two card lot from a mid-year Masto Auction
2. T 200 PSA 7 New York Giant Card- E Bay
3. R 321 PSA 8 Goudey - Goodwin (only PSA 8 R321 auctioned in the last 18 months

Here's hoping that you aquire "the one that got away" in 2007

Bruce

One was that ever elusive T206 Matty, it was the White hat variation....psa 2, I was watching item, plain forgot to put a bid in.....it went for $145. The other was a E90-1 Joss looked like about a Vg+, went for $175, I think it would have graded a SGC 50.

From one board member to another....I was on the sidelines watching helplessly.....The deal was being done right in front of me but there was nothing I could do.... Hopefully there will be another...there usually is.

I just missed on a PSA 8 Goudey #230 Hubbell. I'm still fuming. "Pipped at the post," as Hamlet once whined.

I am still kicking myself for loosing the Mello Mint Bob Bescher from the spring Mastro auction and I let 2 N172 Paul Hines (both poses I need and in great condition) get away on ebay within the past year. So far though I am looking to make up for it here in the next few weeks though (fingers crossed).

Regrets, Ive had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful bid along the eBay,
But more, much more than this,
I bid it my way.

My girlfriend, who is an English as a second language person and often does not understand some things which I believe to be fairly routine, uses my home desktop computer to check her e-mails. This same desktop is where I have my Auction Sentry sniping program. I am out of the house one Sunday afternoon and she is home (my home) alone. As she gets on the computer an item I have a snipe set for gets a bid. That causes Auction Sentry to appear on the screen and a little siren alerts you as to the bid. Well, she simply hits the little "x" in the corner of the Auction Sentry box (rather than just minimize it) which shuts down the software. I essentially have no bid in place at this point. When I get home I see what happen and under some stiff interrogation uncover what she had done.

The card? ... a 1936 World Wide Gum Joe DiMaggio card. Many of you may know that these do not come along very often. Perhaps I wouldn't have won it. The card sold for $4,729. My snipe was at $5,150.14. I sure would have liked AT LEAST the opporunity to own it.

There is an auction held every Wednesday that is about 20 minutes away from my house. About a month ago, the auction listing in the newspaper said "33 political pins". I went to the website and looked at the scan of the pins. The scan was at an angle and blurry. A gut feeling said there might be a baseball pin in the lot. The auction starts at 9:00 a.m. and that morning I was busy doing some other things and looked up to see it was 9:05 a.m. I decided not to go.

Well, a week later, the pin shows up on eBay. I know the seller didn't pay more than $50 dollars for the pin (because he buys things cheap to resell on eBay) and it sold for $335. Something rare and affordable in my own "backyard" and I let it slip through my fingers....

David

How ironic you should ask...
Very recently deal was agreed to (check sent and mailing details confirmed) on an E94 Cobb -- seller and member of this forum held out 2 weeks to finally decide he didn't want to do the deal and sent my check back ....

Lesson learned - enough said
Here is to a better 2007 and continued work on the E94's
Cheers
Darrell
