Default My Favorite Ruth....And your's is ?

Posted By: Brad

This is the only Ruth I have, but out of all the Ruth cards I think the 1923 Maple Crispette is the nicest. It shows him in b/w with a big smile wearing Yankee BB cap on. I also like this cards because is show alot of detail within the print plus its on thick cardstock paper.

This is my favorite Ruth (disclaimer - this is not mine. In fact, I believe it once belonged to Quan - should have bought it when if was offered to me.). Still trying to find one in a suitable grade and price.

Jim, the 1933 #53 goudey would have to be my 2nd choice, I would have to admit this card is a ture classic and a must have for any Ruth collector.

How could a person believe a card is worth $250,000 but not get it graded?

Not trusting "mailing in the card" is understandable (as mentioned on the eBay listing)... but why not head down to a show and talk to the guys from SGC... they will grade while you wait --- or for a card with that kind of value (if it is that valuable) - I am sure they would work something out.

Doesn't make sense at all.

oh... and shipping insurance is optional?

What I want to know is... how much does it cost to do a $250,000 buy it now listing on eBay?

Its all a little bit out of whack if you ask me.

Cost for BIN in an ebay store for quarter mil: 2cents.

Marketing of card: priceless.

I don't own any Ruth's but I've seen a few in my day. IMHO the 1933 Goudey #53 is only the 3rd best card (in appearance) of the 4 in the set. The full batting pose is my favorite, followed by the "looking back" shot, with #53 Goudey Yellow following. I feel the Goudey red batting is a very boring and ugly card.

My favorite that I dont own

The 1933 Goudey Ruth's are really colorful and I love them. But, the 1949 LEAF
Babe Ruth card gives me "flashbacks" to the early Spring of '49 when I opened
a Red-White-Blue Leaf pack and gazed with amazement at this Ruth card. I was
only 10 years old; and, in the Summer of '48 I had put together an album of all
the newspaper clippings on "the Babe" when he had passed away.

Nice story Ted. Then the Leaf Babe is a tribute card and not planned for the original issue?.. Short printed?

Steve

This Ruth card was in the 1st Series of Leafs; therefore, it is not a short-
print (SP) in this set. The 2nd Series of 49 cards in this set were limited in
production and limited in distribution (therefore SP).

A photo in place of a card. Babe Ruth was the symbol of baseball worldwide and the idol of American youth.

What a great shot! That doesn't happen these days, but in my mind, that is what we need more of.No telling what these young ones did in their lives, but I'm sure that they always remembered that day.I wonder how many of them actually made it to the majors. We need more "true" hero's like that!

This, to me, is the classic (along with the '32 Caramel pose) image of the Babe. This one's got the eye appeal of a 9 with corner dings that allowed me to acquire it.

Really great looking cards of this very popular Goudey Ruth.

This 1933 Goudey #144 card of Ruth was double-printed (DP) on its particular
sheet of 24 cards. And, I am wondering if any obvious or subtle printing differ-
ences have ever been identified by comparing several of these cards ?

We recently compared the obvious differences on the DP card of the 1952 Mantle.

This is the only Ruth I have, but it a very sweet looking card in my opinion. I love the swing and the spacing of the players! My scanner is busted, so I actually pilfered this scan off of a fellow OBCer's website. I figured he wouldn't mind seeing his card on the board!

Any Ruth pitching is a great card. However it is even more unusual to find Ruth actually fielding. Only in his Fro Joy and his 1921 Exhibit card can a shot of him playing the field be found. Here is mine-

We have all seen some "crazy" BB card listings, but this one you linked to has to
be the at the top of the list. It never ceases to amaze me what some of these
sellers on ebay will try to "pull off" on the collecting public.
