I've recently taken a shining to these little guys and am considering starting to dabble in them. Would love to see some scans......

Being more of a gum collector than tobacco, this may be a stupid question, but were Obaks the first cards to put any kind of stats on the backs? And why do some have them and some don't? Is it safe to assume that the ones that don't are "rookies" with no previous years stats to print?

Default Obaks and more

Click this link - http://www.sportingoregon.com/p82778321 - and then click "Show All" at the bottom. You can click on any individual card for a closer look and a description. Your backspace key will bounce you back. When you're done there click the "All The Photos" link in the upper left to see the whole shebang, or you can get there by clicking here for the main gallery page: http://www.sportingoregon.com/f586168153

The Portland and Victoria cards were always my favorites. I have always wanted a Portland Williams port. card but have never come across a nice one.

Tiedeman is one of my favorites - snappiest dressed catcher card

Thomas looks like he's in Hell. With averages of .239 and .234, yet described as the best catcher in the Coast League, perhaps he is in hell?

Connor, Paul “Jack’ Pollard was an old time collector who had a focus on Minor league cards. Much of his collection was offered and is still being offered by REA. All of the past T210 sets the past T210 Jackson many of Zeenut sets, T211 sets etc. Even the Ware’s Ruth card in the current REA was Paul’s at one time as well as the last CA League OJ card.

These were his Obak Sets that I won. Being a softy for history I asked SGC to tag the slabs with his name.

Cheers,

John

Love the colors on these.

Really like the pose on that Baum card. Almost looks like he's going to throw underhanded.

Hi Rob,

I've just been slowly picking them up when I feel the price is right and condition is nice.

I also got some more from the last B&L Auction (thanks, Leon and Scott!):

Hi Blair,

Those are nice! The ones I generally see are PSA 2 or 1. Maybe I need to expand my horizons and check the auction houses.

p.s. Did you ever complete your C60 set?

Hi Rob,

Down to 5 cards needed now for C60 - thanks for asking!

Re Obak - as you see above I have doubles now of Gardner and Chenault...drop me a PM if you would be interested in either one.

Cheers,
Blair

Here's one of mine that I acquired just recently. The one on the right is mine, and missing a couple color passes (red and black?) and as a result the card came out outlined in red. The card on the left illustrates how the card should look.

Has a neat "Gilliam Squires" overprint on the back too for whatever that's worth....
