Default In 1927, Long Beach police arrested the Yankees Slugger...

for an autograph show he'd done for kids in San Diego. He was acquitted of violating state child labor laws.

What a bunch of chumps down at the Long Beach D.A.'s office!

(Don't own this photo; it went for over twenty grand the other year)

David- there's something very interesting about that photo. It was taken in San Francisco in the early 1930's. At that time Joe DiMaggio was a teenager living there, who would of course have been very interested in meeting a star like Ruth. Now look about three inches to the left of Babe, and down a tad. There's a boy in a cap looking at the camera. Doesn't that look like a young Joe D.?

Is it really Joe or just someone who looks like him.

Well that's the question. It's the right city, that boy is about the right age, and Joe was already a fine ballplayer who would have had a reason to see Ruth. And it looks like him. But we can't be sure.

Never saw that before. Good eye, Barry. It does suggest a resemblance. I think Mark can give us the definite maybe or absolute no way Jose better than anyone on the board. Let's have some fun with this in the meantime. Maybe that's young brother Dom one kid over to Joe's left?

Amazing....the size, shape and spacing between his features are close enough that I can't tell a difference when I hold a picture of Joe next to it. I've got a degree in Criminal Justice, and this is very much like one of the classic look-alike tests we were given to show how eye witnesses tend to manipulate remembered features to resemble someone they thought of when seeing a suspect. Except it is working on me!!!

It would be interesting to get some more opinions, but the title of this thread has nothing to do with the photo. We hijacked it, of course, but this is worth a board poll. I think it's him.
