Default Reslab or return?

Got a T206 Johnson Hands at Chest from the December PWCC auction (not a huge fan of PWCC but there have been some relative bargains in their monthly auctions).

When it arrived, it had 2 small cracks in the bottom of the front of the slab that were not visible in the scans or mentioned in the description.
https://www.pwccmarketplace.com/items/3075519

Customer service (which was very quick to respond I might add) said I could probably send it back to them and get my money back, but I think I'd prefer to hold onto it and get it re-slabbed, as they also said they MIGHT be able to get me $30 credit or something to that effect.

I am afraid if I get it re-slabbed it will somehow come back as lower than a 3, as it was graded in January 2012, and I know some people think grading has become stricter over time.

I know it's hard to predict a grade, but if people think it's a 3, I'd be more inclined to re-slab. Maybe I should just take the credit and not bother to re-slab?

Reholdering does not affect the grade.
They don't even look at the card, just reholder it.

Ask if PWCC will send it back for re-slabbing. If they were going to offer a $30 credit, then I'm sure they'd probably do that for you. I'm going to go out on a limb here and figure they regularly send stuff in for grading so it's not like it's going to hurt them to do it.

Good point. Especially since I think it will actually cost $75 (plus shipping) to have it re-slabbed because it exceeds the $1,500 threshold.

+1 agreed

Especially if it was not spelled out on the description about the condition of the slept. They should make it right
But with PWCC we never know but does not hurt to call and ask

Default Slab Damage

Yeah, looks like a bit of damage in packaging the item. I'd ask PWCC what they suggest. They might give you a credit or a small refund. Better to ask and they might surprise you with a good solution. Me, personally, I'd rather have a small refund and not worry about the flaws in the slab. The card looks great! That's the most important thing.

Yeah, they gave me a $75 refund. It would cost more than $75 to get it re-slabbed because of shipping, but hey, I'll take it. Like you said, the card looks great, and that's what matters!

Default Slab

Congrats! Good solution to have the $75 refund and the card. Now you have $75 towards buying another card!
