Default Is this Young Cobb?

Posted By: joe maples

Hi there, have this unusual postcard. The front has 3 men and a young teenager standing. On the bottom written "The Bachelor Family". Written names above each person, Sady ?, Mama and Kid. On the back of PC written (1) E. Murray Operator, (2) H.C. Gambill agt and (3) Ty Cobb Clerk, card is from Fair Oaks Ark. Any ideas or opinions.

Thanks Joe

The era of the picture is wrong. Also, the person in the middle looks a heck of a lot more like Cobb than the kid on the right. Cobb was the oldest of three kids and grew up in Royston, GA

i saw a close up photo of ty cobb and it looks like he has a mole or birthmark on the right side of his chin, hard to tell without a closer look...maybe you can check some of the biography books/sites and see if he ever worked as a clerk
pete-

my best pitch was the one that made it to the plate!

perhaps just a nickname as ty cobb was very famous and anyone with last name of cobb might be referred to as "ty"

We know the guy in the middle isn't Cobb. He would have beat the living %$#@ out of someone if they called him "Mama"

Cobb never had hair like that. Even when he was younger it was thinner/thinning. This guy has hair like JFK.

There were 34,986 "Ty's" in the US according to the census report!
It was a common name at the time!

I really didn't think this was Ty Cobb either. But have never seen a picture of him in his early teen years. Have seen baby pictures, but nothing in between befor his career started.

Thanks Joe

Joe- I think the guy's name is probably Fred Cobb or Billy Joe Cobb (well he is from Arkansas) and picked up the nickname "Ty" because of his last name. The face looks completely different from a picture I saw of him at age 17. I agree, the guy in the middle looks more like Cobb.

Hey Joe, I've been fulled by misleading information written on photos myself. This photo of mine has the name "Sockalexis" written on the back. For awhile, I thought I had a young picture of Louis Sockalexis. With the help of a few board members, I was able to determine this is probably not Louis Sockalexis. The biggest give away here is that this guys ears don't seem to match Louis' ears, but this guy seems to resemble Louis a great deal. The guy in my picture could very well be related to Louis Sockalexis, but I'll probably never know for sure. Whether or not your picture is a picture of Ty Cobb, I think it's still a great photo and a great conversation piece!
