The Big 3 (1952 Topps, T206, and 1933 Goudey) are so named because they are all large, beautiful artwork sets containing almost all of the HoFs of the day. They all have some mystique: Honus/Plank/Cobb/backs, 4 Babe Ruths/Lajoie, and Mantle/High numbers/2nd run of gray backs/etc. They are all plentiful, which makes it easier for many collectors to start and even complete sets. Plus they're three different generations of cards, so almost none of the players overlap.

Oh, what a difference a year makes.
