There is an awesome book on the topic of the Patagonian Toothfish called "Hooked". I read it years ago and it led me into researching other similar clever ways of marketing to the American pallet.

Third party grading is another clever way of selling crap as gold. Pay way more for a card because of the plastic encapsulating it. All it takes is a shiny hologram and a barcode above your 100+ year old tobacco advertisement and we're hooked. *I don't actually think the species of fish is crap.
