Default Post-war Uncenteredness

Posted By: Paul S

What do you all think of the huge amount of variance in the centering of post-war cards? Pre-war well, maybe they didn't have the best calibrated machinery or were hand cut. But post-war, it seems to me that they could have come a lot closer to being 50-50, even if not precisely so. Does anybody see much difference from the 1950's through the 60s? Sometimes it appears to me that it was even worse in the 60s! Sloppy shoving of sheets in the cutter? What? I've bought a ton of wax packs, especially in the later 60's and early 70s. I was just looking through my Topps 71. It turns out I have 5 Yastrzmskis(sp?) Not one is even close to being centered. One miscut. The nicest is about 65-35 or so. Thoughts?
