Default OT: Idiot born every minute

I've got a friend that used to be a very involved card collector, and a year ago he started buying and selling fancy currency (the name for this sort of thing). He'll pull thousands of $1 bills from the bank, go thru them, and pull out anything with an interesting serial number- eg 43211234 (thats called an echo, since it's the same back and forth), 12121212 (binary, 2 different numbers), 2222323232 (6 or more of a number is the holy grail- get 6 7's and the Asian market goes nuts for it). If you get a note with a star instead of a digit you're pure gold. The bulk would go back in the bank, and the small handful he kept would sell for hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.
There are tons of different ways to collect them, and plain, modern $1 bills are often sold for 60-150X face value. We go out to dinner and his change is worth more than the cost of the meal. PSA grades them, and the registry is starting up. We all know how that will go.
I started to raise an eyebrow at it, but people in glass houses don't throw stones.
