I can see your logic, but it's important to know that Fitzgerald was an avid stamp collector throughout his entire life and shared this passion with his daughter Scottie. The journal was written much later in his life and the early entries are part of recollecting on things that happened decades prior when he was a boy. I don't necessarily think omitting a baseball collection means he didn't care about them or that it didn't happen. What the journal tells us is he indeed
collected and that he and his father were fans of baseball.
