Default Pete Jablonowski....a.k.a. Pete Appleton

"Strange things are happening".....OK, you trivia buffs.....who used to say that on TV ?

Anyhow, Pete Jablonowski's major league career started in 1927 with Cincinnati. In 1932,
pitching for the Newark Bears, he had an 11-1 (W-L) record. And, batted .300 helping the
Bears win the International League pennant.
The Yankees were very impressed with him and brought him up for the 1933 season. At the
end of that season he married Aldora Leszcynski. She insisted he change his name since she
didn't want to be called "Aldora Leszcynski Jablonowski". So, he changed it to Pete Appleton.
The change appeared to help his pitching career. He had his best season in 1936 with Wash-
ington....winning 14 while losing 9.
