OK....Eric Perry guessed correctly....the new Manager was Ralph Houk.
Mid January 1961, Ralph Houk was responding to NY sportswriters' questions.
One sportswriter asked Ralph...... " How will Mantle's legs hold up through the longer, 162-game schedule ? "
Ralph said......
" I hope Mantle plays 162 games; and, if he does he will hit 60 HR's and Maris will hit 59....they will make me a helluva a manager . "
Now is that a prescient call....or what ?
