Dave Rey"Bat ears" occur when a card is trimmed on both the vertical and horizontal directions. The second trim cut "pushes" the card stock in the direction of the cut, causing a point that stretches beyond perpendicular to the adjacent edge -- looks kinda like Batman's ears...
Something like this -- but not so exaggerated.
