I believe that this effect is due to heat, or maybe temperature variance. I stored some of my PSA graded cards in my garage, and this same thing happened over the course of 5+ years. And I live in one of if not THE mildest climates in the US.
EDIT: Also, mine are old labels like this one, at least 10 years old in all cases. Perhaps they've made some improvements to the label material since then.
