Default What teams won the South Atlantic League in 1909,10, and 1911

Posted By: Frank Wakefield

In 1909, Augusta won the fist half, Chatanooga the second, and Chatanooga won the Championship playoff 4 games to 3. Gaskill of Chatanooga had 21 wins, Alcock, Chatanooga's third basman, hit .349. These numbers were 2nd in wins and average.

In 1910 Columbus edged out Macon by a game and a half. The season ended August 27th. Chatanooga wasn't in the league, their team had moved to the Southern League.

In 1911 Columbus won the first half, Columbia the second, and Columbus won the playoffs. The league had some problems, the Augusta team folded July 26th, the league took over operation of the team and they played as the "S.A.L."s. On August 29th a severe storm hammered Charleston, the team was put out of business, the franchise surrendered.

Hope that helps.

Frank.
