The medal is marked on back Dieges and Clust, and with a name, that I have never been able to make out for certain (I suck at this old english lettering) - perhaps Lemke?
This is a myth without any historical support promulgated on a web site that was (is?) maintained by the defunct CAA. The Cubs logo did not resemble the red "C" within a thick blue circle until 1979, and was a clear gradual evolution from a long series of earlier versions, dating back to 1909.
