All my mats are the highest quality archival cotton rag. I usually spend about $20 per sheet at Dick Blick Art Supply.
I don't use UV glass., because, in my mancave, I installed only LED bulbs in all the fixtures. I also only have one very small window. So, no UV from lights and very little UV from daylight.
I would encourage you to give it a shot. It's fun, creative, and can save you a boatload of money.
