There's nothing odd at all about a 29 year old loving pre-war and vintage cards. It just means you've developed refined tastes a little bit before most people your age. 
I think it's cool your dad gave you his collection. Are you going to focus on that same period, or have you thought about exploring cards from previous eras? There are a lot of great pre-war sets that you might really enjoy, too. Have a look around. You never know what you might find.
