That's definitely true. One of my most vivid memories of games at Fenway was a game against the A's with the fans chanting "Steroids, Steroids, Steroids" and "Jose, Jose, Jose you suck!" while he was standing in the OF.

Of course he was cheered once he put on a Sox uniform a few years later...
