Default George Burke Photos

Leon, I meant to post when you still had your DiMaggio up, but I didn't have these scanned until now. The George Burke 4x6 photos are some of my absolute favorite collectibles. The portraits are stunning in their detail and the breadth of baseball player subjects. Virtually every player in the major leagues was photographed by Burke as they came through the AL and NL Chicago ballparks from the late 1920s into the 1940s. There are as many obscure players as there are superstars among his subjects. These smaller photos are "card-like" insofar as they are 4x6 in size, have some details regarding the subject, team (per numbering system), and photographer on the back, and are highly collectible.

Showing two of my favorites. The first of course is Walter Johnson as the MGR of the Cleveland Indians 1933-35, and the second is pitcher Paul Kardow, who played in a total of 2 MLB games, both in 1936. There are no contemporary Cleveland cards of Mr. Kardow, so I am very happy that Mr. Burke thought to take his photo when he passed through Chicago.

I'd love to see some more George Burke Photos.
