Default FS: TOM CONNOLLY Autographed Letter Hall Of Fame Umpire PSA/DNA

TOM CONNOLLY Full page typewritten letter measures 8 1/2 x 11 and dated May 25th, 1948. Written to the New York Yankees unique in that me mentions umpiring the FIRST day of the opening of Yankee stadium. Letter is in fabulous condition and is professionally attached to a slightly larger page of heavy stock backing. He officiated in the National League from 1898 to 1900, followed by 31 years of service in the American League from 1901 to 1931.In over half a century as an American League umpire and supervisor, he established the high standards for which the circuit's arbiters became known, and solidified the reputation for integrity of umpires in the major leagues. His reputation earned him prominent game assignments, including the first AL games ever played at Comiskey Park, Shibe Park, Fenway Park, and Yankee Stadium. Connolly was also the sole AL umpire chosen to work in the first World Series in 1903. Other milestones included working four no-hit games including Addie Joss perfect game. He was only the second umpire inducted into the Hall Of Fame. He died in 1961. $650.00
