Default REA Spring Auction Preview: Ty Cobb Broad Leaf 460 Edition

Hi Everyone,

Leading up to each auction, we get inundated with calls and emails from collectors clamoring to know what's going to be in our auction. They know we turn up great stuff on a consistent basis, and the excitement that surrounds an REA auction and the anticipation for our catalog reaches fever pitch about two weeks out. That's where we're at now, with bidding opening April 13, but I have to say that we've been getting a lot of specific questions in the last week or so from people wanting to know if we had a Broad Leaf 460 Ty Cobb card. For many years, the answer would have likely been "we wish" or "are you kidding me?" This year, however, we're excited to announce that we do indeed have an example of this rare card.

Many of you will be familiar with the card from its appearance on eBay and its discussion on the board. Even I can admit that it was a bit unorthodox from the start, but be that as it may, it does not change the fact that card is entirely real! We are happy to be able to offer the card authenticated and encapsulated by SGC, only the second confirmed and graded example. We do this day in and day out, and we've heard every story and seen items come from some of the strangest places. We are natural skeptics ourselves. But we have to cast all the noise aside and evaluate the items on their own merits, and when we had a chance to properly inspect this card, it was absolutely everything that you'd expect it to be.

The card will be lot #6 in the auction that opens two weeks from tomorrow. It will have a starting bid of $2500 and we expect it to sell for many multiples of that. We're excited to let the card run its course, properly authenticated and offered in a reliable venue. It should be fun to watch!

The card will be on display at our booth next weekend (April 6-8) at the Chantilly, VA show. It will also be available for inspection in person by appointment at our office for the duration of the auction (April 13-May 6).

Catalogs will mail starting April 13. If you're not on our mailing list and you'd like to be, you can request one on our website.

We're excited to show off the other 2650+ lots in this auction!

Brian
