I've always thought the same thing. I do have a document scanner Fujitsu IX500 ScanSnap that is incredible for scanning receipts and other paperwork into PDF's. I'll have to test it with some junk wax era cards and post results here. The scanner it's self does have resolution settings, so it can scan per second, but the scan quality is down. Better scans take a bit longer to feed but it's extremely reliable and hardly ever jams or pulls more than one sheet at a time. I chose this model since I see many hospitals using it to scan driver's license and insurance cards, along with lab slips and whatever else.
