Vintage Memorabilia...Game Used, Team Signed Balls, Ruth, Cobb ++ Updated 2/8
I don't want to list what I have in a bunch of separate posts for each type of item...so I will be posting it all under a single heading. I hope to update it weekly as I get new items in and as I sell items.
Equipment Including Game Used
John McGraw Autographed Bat
Spalding 34 1/2 inch presentational bat with engraved barrel text "Loyal Giants Rooters Dinner to John J. McGraw and the 1929 Giants, New York, April 14th 1929". The bat is signed in black fountain pen "To Tommy Fitzpatrick, John J McGraw". The pen signature has been traced over, but the original autograph is still there. This presentational bat without the autograph has sold between $800-$2,000 over the past 2 years. This presentational bat with an autograph sold at auction in August 2010 for over $8,000.
$2,100
Rogers Hornsby Game Used Bat
Hanna Batrite 36 inch 34 1/2 ounce game used Rogers Hornsby bat dated to the 1930's. The bat has been graded "A5" by Mears with great game use, a handle crack, and a small carved letter J on the barrell. Comes with Mears LOA.
$1,900
Reggie Jackson 1980 Game Used Bat
Adirondack 34 inch 32 1/2 ounce game used Reggie Jackson bat dated to 1980. Bat shows great game use, but has a 10 inch crack. Because the bat has provenance from a Yankee bat boy of the period, the bat has a grade of A8.5 by Mears.
$1,400
Side Written Buck Weaver Game Used Barnstorming Bat
H&B 35 1/2 inch 34 1/2 ounce game used Chuck Carroll bat used by Buck Weaver and returned to H&B after being cracked. Weaver no longer ordered his own bats after the Black sox scandal, so the side writing on this bat tells the story of whose game use it truly was. Side writing is dated during 1923 and has the name "Buck Weaver". Graded by Mears A7.5 due to great game use, H&B side writing provenance, a crack, and minus points for the bat not having been issued to Weaver.
$4,500
Buck Weaver WL Buck Connor Bat
Interesting H&B 34 1/2 inch 34 1/2 ounce Chuck Carroll game used bat with side writing for "W.L. Buck". Weaver did not order his own bats after the Black Sox scandal, instead purchasing his bats through others. Whether this truly is a Buck Weaver gamer is not known. However, Weaver is known to have used Chuck Carroll bats for his orders during his barnstorming days. The fact that "W.L.Buck" ordered bats for himself using not just Chuck Carroll, but also "Fitzgerald" signifies that whomever W.L. Buck was, he was ordering bats from H&B using other player's bats for his own...which is exactly what Weaver was doing.
$850
Buck Weaver WL Buck Fitzgerald Bat
Another interesting H&B bat, this one is 35 inches and 35 ounces. It is side written "W.L.Buck" with a date of August 1930. The name "Fitzgerald" is in block letters on the barrell. Just as with the above two bats, this is believed to have been used by Buck Weaver during his barnstorming days. Weaver could not order his own bats directly through H&B, so he used the bats of friends or teammates and, originally, used his own name...but later may well have used an assumed name to order the bats.
$850
