How about:

Isao Harimoto - Japan's all-time hits leaders (and atom bomb survivor)
The Alou Brothers (they can share a card)
A card about players who actually saw combat in WWII (Spahn, etc.)
Mark Fidrych (he can be pictured talking to a baseball)
Considering Joe Di'maggio has one more vote than Darryl Strawberry and Greg Maddux is apparently competing with Robin Roberts, I think your idea might be a winner!

I vote Munson and Michael Jordan.
