Ryan ChristoffIf we are talking names on cards, my vote goes to a Cuban card (surprise!) of HOFer Pop Lloyd. On Lloyd's 1920's Aguilitas Segundas card it says "Joe Baseball". The reason remains a mystery.
For 19th Century, my vote goes to Phenomenal Smith.
The Negro Leagues are loaded with great names if we are counting nicknames, including several HOFers. A few are:
- Cool Papa Bell
- Satchel Paige
-Turkey Stearnes
- Bullet Joe Rogan (his name was Wilbur)
- Smokey Joe Williams
- Ghost Marcelle
- Mule Suttles
- Double Duty Radcliffe
- Boojum Wilson
- Cannonball Redding
- Superman Pennington
- Champion Mesa
- Jewbaby Johnson (yes, Jewbaby)
- Moocha Harris
- Heavy Johnson
- Googoo Livingston
- Spot Poles
- Bubbles Anderson
- Neck Stanley
- Stainless Steele
- Jelly Gardner
- Wild Bill Wright
There's a ton more, but that's a decent starter list.
