Van Robays was attributed for naming the Eephus pitch, that thing that Ted Williams slammed outa the park (like Rhett did IDing) in the 1946 All Star Game. In 1942 Reporters, after a game, were asking what the pitch was, Pitcher Rip Sewell didn't respond, Van Robays said it was an Eephus Pitch. The reporters asked what that was, and Van Robays said an Eephus ain't nothing, and that's what that pitch was. The name stuck.
