Agree with above. Once you've handled thousands, it becomes pretty easy to spot counterfeits. Alterations can be a little tougher to spot; however -trimming, color added, etc. Must like with any era card, the best method of detection is to compare with others from the same set. They didn't bring out special card stock for the stars - they're all printed on the same sheet so all have the same characteristics.

Most common counterfeits are obviously the highest dollar cards: any Mantle, major rookies - Clemente, Mays, Aaron, Rose (probably one of the most commonly counterfeited cards), Seaver, Ryan, etc.
