It looks to us to read pretty clearly and unambiguously "Scotty Monteith."
Unfortunately, a cursory search turns up no one by that name who ever played hockey at any professional level.
Closest we can find is a Scotty Martin, who played in the 1930s for Syracuse of the IHL, which in just the 1933-34 season
were a top farm club of the NHL's New York Americans, not Rangers. Martin appears not to have played that season,
although he did play for Syracuse in the preceding and following campaigns.
Searches for Scott and/or Scotty Mont-- , Mant-- , Mart--, and Mort-- turned up no candidates...
Maybe a Scotty Monteith was affiliated with the '30 Rags in some other capacity -- trainer, equipment manager... ?
