I've never liked that style of "Mel Ott" either. It appears on Giants' Balls a lot, but cannot recall ever seeing it on a flat surface.
FWIW, many of the auction houses have sold Giants Signed Balls with this same exact "Ott" style, and most have had accompanying Letters from JSA, PSA, etc.
The "M' looks especially bad to me, and I've always suspected these are secretarial. Perhaps the authenticators know something we don't?
