The link didn't work for me, but I was just reading about an English scientist, Sir Francis Galton, who was the cousin of Charles Darwin. He studied fingerprints and in 1892 he published a book on their classification. In 1902 fingerprinting was adopted by Scotland Yard (the system they used before that was based off of an 11 point measurement system of body parts
