I just use the Canon driver software Canon IJ Scan Utility. I don't use any of the Canon provided programs. In Advanced Mode, I just preview the scan, adjust scan area, and scan. If it's a high DPI and I'm not sure what the true output size will be, I just open the scan in basic Microsoft Paint. It doesn't automatically resize it to fit your monitor like other programs do. No need to adjust colors or touch up an area so those other programs are unneeded. Crop it in the Preview, and then Scan.
