Mickey played four years of football at BU and was supposedly a much better football player than a baseball player. They played an occasional football game at Braves field but never a baseball game there. Almost all games were played on the road. He only played baseball his Soph. and Junior year at BU and signed a baseball contract during his Senior year. He also participated in inter collegiate boxing during his Freshman and Sophomore years.
