HankronI don't know what, if any, eBay rules apply to this situation and I'm not trying to formulate an ethical standard to apply to others ... It mostly comes down to that, if I have a bid in an auction and the seller stops the auction and sells it to someone else, it rubs me the wrong way. What was the point of me bidding and will future bids also be negated by this seller? It's kind of like someone who, in a pickup game, suddenly changes the rules to his advantage just so he can win. Irrelevant to ethics, it doesn't interest me to play this person again and I won't.
