Default For Vintage Prices...If not Beckett's then...

Posted By: barry arnold

With respect to hard copy, I believe that Leon is correct about the
2007 SCD Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how accurate a number of the
T206 prices were. Granted the figures are only 'ballparkish' but still
pretty good ,particularly for the VG category. Yes, there are a number of
exceptions to the 'ballparkish' accuracy.
I particularly like the chronological index at the end of the volume which
not only makes it easier to find what you may be after but also gives you
an interesting glimpse of other issues of cards for the same time period which may have slipped your mind. With all due respect to Rich et al, i've had a very difficult time finding what i was after in the Beckett volume and also noted that
Beckett tends to keep the same narratives about the various issues (n.b.
2006 Beckett repeats some 2005 narratives verbatim, without referring to
new research relative to the various issues, vintage particularly. Still,
its contribution to the field of baseball cards has been tremendous. It
just needs quite a bit of rewriting to get it up to date methinks.

all the best,

barry
