When you are a shortstop, you are typically the most versatile player on the field, in that you can play several other positions. As
this article points out, Acuna could play 2b (freeing up McNiel to take over for Canha) or CF like his older brother.
Few other position players can fill the role of a shortstop, but a shortstop can fill the role of several other positions usually.
