In regular catalog and auction house auctions the ending time of the auction can be adjusted due to power outages or the computer going down at a critical point. Ebay goes down from time to time and if your stuff is scheduled to close when the system craps out you're losing a lot of money. With all the snipe bids coming in the last minute a card could be sitting at a $100 with a minute to go and then jump to several thousand when it closes. If Ebay goes down and those bids don't come in you'll wish you had a reserve on your stuff.
