Default For the true Cono-Sewer: What do you look for in a Beater?

Posted By: Ben

In my ongoing hunt for beaters, I tend to look for cards that have been visibly well-loved by a previous owner, giving them personalities of their own. Creases and well rounded corners are virtually a must. Some sort of meaninful writing (stats, team changes, etc) are a definite plus as well. Extreme trimming is ok, as long is it was accidental and/or obviously done without the intent to deceive. Food stains, paper loss, mold, and other deformities of this sort are all badges of honor in the beater world.

Here's my favorite beater - e104 Mack with a nadja back. It's not what most would typically consider "pretty", but he's certainly well loved and one of a kind in my eye.
