AlIt is hard to find any of the 48,55, or 56 isuues in great condition. They were sold in strips that had to be cut and were blank cardboard until spit on or moistened and then the picture developed. The final product can be barely discernable or fairly clear. The cardboard is also fairly thin and bangs up easily. In each case the baseball players are a subset of larger sets of actors, politicians and other famous folks.
The 48s, while not oftern available on ebay, usually go fairly inexpensively with the exception of good examples of Ruth, Gehrig and Cobb. The 56 are harder to find and usually go for more money. Williams,Robinson and Spahn are expensive.
I have found the 55 baseball items extremely hard to find and have only Robinson ( very expensive), Mathews ( expensive) and Lopat. I believe when they come up they will go for quite a bit more than the 56 or 48s.There are supposed to be 23 of the 55s according to the information on the backs of the cards, but a half dozen or so are still "unkown"
Rogers Hornby is in the 48 set.
