Default SGC Response/Offer Concerning "Frank Nagy" T204 Ramlys

I am posting this for our friends at SGC.

"Effective immediately, SGC has decided that it is appropriate to label the “Frank Nagy T204 Ramlys” as sheet cut. These cards were once on a full sheet belonging to hobby pioneer Frank Nagy and were carefully cut decades ago to produce exceptionally attractive and high-grade single cards.
These cards have been sold in a number of venues in recent years at significantly discounted prices compared to other high-grade cards from the T204 set without the same history. The prices make it clear that the market views these cards in a unique light, and we feel that acknowledging the cards’ history directly on the label will offer the greatest degree of transparency for buyers not familiar with the Nagy story.

As a result of this policy change, some collectors or dealers may feel that the value of their Nagy Ramlys has decreased, and SGC is taking steps to compensate anyone holding a Nagy Ramly in an SGC holder who no longer feels comfortable owning the card(s). From now until December 31, 2017, SGC will pay the amount of the last documented auction transaction prior to May 1, 2017 (according to VintageCardPrices.com) plus ten percent for any of the forty-one T204 Ramly cards on invoices 1004614, 1004615, and 1004717.

SGC is both proud and honored to have these cards in our holders. In time, we think that the hobby will come to accept these cards, and cards like them, with proper labeling. Further, with respect to the Frank Nagy Ramly’s, we agree with hobby pioneer Rob Lifson who wrote that “In any holders . . .these cards are the most spectacular and close-to-flawless T204 Ramlys in existence.”

If you would like to relabel or sell SGC a Nagy Ramly, please contact Matthew Clark at mclark@sgccard.com.
Thank You,
SGC
