Crowd of 12,466 was the largest to date to see a Pittsburg game. The Giants were one game behing the Pirates.

"...with Zimmer at first and Wagner at third, the two tried a double steal. Zimmer broke for second, but Matty stretched up, picked off the throw, and fired home to nail Wagner easily at the plate. The Giants scored three times in the 12th, but the Pirates responded. With two outs, Wagner was at second after driving in a run and Ritchey was perched on first. When Wagner broke for third, the rattled Mathewson committed a balk. With the tying runs in scoring position, Matty struck out Ely to end the game and move the Giants back into a first-place tie with Pittsburg."
