Matty was pitching. And, Wagner's hit did go into the bleachers...behind him. It was in Polo Grounds, and the "bleachers" were behind the fair ball lines. Everyone in the outfield there had to stand in the grass to watch the game.

But, you had to give Wagner credit for being brave enough to even swing at one of Christy's pitches, even if it was a foul ball... <grin>
