Vintage sets have been selling well. CJ's have been realizing healthy prices as well. Take lot 504 in the last Mastro auction - the 1915 CJ near set... that was very strong.
Lipset called the JJ EXMT and if it grades as such, it's a solid 12-13k card. Especially seeing the nearly $20,000 realized price for the PSA 7 copy that was in the latest SCP's auction.
I would feel more comfortable with a set like this than a high-grade 1915 CJ set. Since PSA will be handing out awards based on the best sets, perhaps this person wanted to buy an award
