Default What is the safest way to ship expensive baseball cards?

Aside from normal shipping/handling & insurance what costs would a seller from Canada incur when shipping via UPS to the U.S.? Are there taxes/duties due when a package leaves Canada? The reason I ask is, I'm contemplating a purchase from one of our friends up north & would like to inform myself of possible shipping fees. Any help w/this would be greatly appreciated.
