Personally, I have never seen an m101-5 with the larger gap EXCEPT for blank backs. I therefore am suspicious of any because the reprints all have that larger gap, and of course are blank backed.
Also, I have never seen an m101-4 with the larger gap, not even the blank backs.
I'm therefore curious to hear from those who collect these issues extensively.
